The river Danube splits Budapest into two parts, Buda and Pest. Buda is west of the river and is the hilly part of town with mostly residential areas. Pest is on the east side, it is flat and you will find most of the businesses, sights, restaurants and bars on this side of town.
You can read more about the history of Budapest on wikipedia.
Public transportation Budapest: there is a good underground network in Budapest with 3 lines and a 4th is just being built. Our apartments are all on the Metro line 1 (yellow line) with good connection to anywhere in the city. Deak Ferenc ter (square) is where all 3 Budapest undergrounds meet and where you can exchange lines. Buses and trams complete the public transport which can be a great way to explore the city.
Tickets for the public transports can be purchased at most underground stations. You can buy single tickets or discounted block of 10 tickets, but there are 24h, 72h and weekly travel cards also available. More information about tickets and prices for public transportation
With the Budapest Card you can travel on all public transports for free and it will give you extra benefits such as entry to some museums, free guided tours and considerable discounts to many other services. One ticket is valid for an adult and a child up to 14 years old. Junior tickets are also available. The Budapest Card is on sale at the larger underground stations.
Nyugati Pu is closest to our holiday apartments, but Keleti is also very close. Déli PU is on the Buda side and is a bit further away.
